How to spend New Years Eve in the Intercontinental Moorea, Tahiti (5 nights) for $234/night

Celebrating New Year's Eve in a fancy hotel can be an expensive affair. But it does not need to be!

Priority Club, the loyalty program of Intercontinental hotels is still participating in the Daily Getaways in association with American Express. You can buy 50,000 IHG points for $325. If you pay with an AMEX card you'll receive a further 10% discount. You can buy up to 4 such packages for one Priority Club account.

The Intercontinental Moorea is a beautiful hotel and gives you a free night for 40,000 points. Once the points bought have posted to your account you can make your reservation using the points.

This will give you a total of $1,170 which translates into $234/night. That's not the deal of the year but a great deal for a New Years Eve escape to Tahiti!

Pitfalls to watch out for:

– Availability of the hotel using points can change while you are waiting for teh points to post. While it's unlikely that it will sell out it's possible.

– If you pay cash for the hotel you'll receive points for each night – you'll earn no points (unless you are an Ambassador) on a reward night redemption. The points earned are not much usually so I would not worry.

– Upgrades can be tricky on reward stays. I would not count on it. However some people have success mailing the property and asking about free/paid options before the stay
