Google Fi has a new unlimited plan. Google has been a wireless carrier since 2015 when the company launched its Google Fi MVNO, first named Project Fi at the time. But up until now, the company had a single pay-as-you-go pricing policy. Now, Google is introducing a new Unlimited plan.
What is Google Fi
Google Fi uses multiple cellular networks behind the scenes, automatically picking the best partner wherever you happen to be. The three partner networks in the USA are Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. That gives Google access to the combined coverage maps of the third and fourth-largest cellular carriers in the country as well as the nation’s largest regional carrier. A nice feature of the Google Fi plans is that they include international data at no extra charge and at full speed, making it an easy option for anyone who does a lot of international travel. Google Fi originally launched as Google’s Project Fi back in 2015. In 2018 they implemented Bill Protection that capped data charges at $60/month.
New Google Fi Unlimited Plan
The new Unlimited Plan announced today provides unlimited data, calls, and text, as well as free international calls from the US to 50 countries. The unlimited data continues to include mobile hotspot use at full speed at no extra charge. The plan continues to also include international data outside of the US in 200 destinations at full speed, at no extra charge. Unlimited customers also get a free Google One membership with 100GB of cloud storage which is worth $2/month or $20/year.
There are discounts for multiple lines:
- $70 for a single line
- $60/line for 2 line
- $50/line for 3 lines
- $45/line for 4-6 lines
Fine lines of the unlimited plan:
- Unlimited only guarantees up to 22GB of high-speed data per month. If you exceed that limit, then Google may slow down your data until the next billing period.
- Video streaming may be reduced down to 480p (DVD quality) on the unlimited plan.
Google Fi used to exclusively support Google Nexus and Pixel devices, last year Google added support for iPhone and most Android phones.
