What is the Marriott MMP code?

Using the MMP code gives you the Explore Rate on Marriott, where you can get discounted rates for personal leisure travel at participating Marriott hotels and resorts all over the world. Since Starwood and Marriott merged, the family and friend rates have been renamed to the Explore Rate and the Explore Friends Rate.

The Explore program in more detail…

The Explore Rate can be booked by Marriott and Starwood staff for themselves or by the immediate family members themselves, directly on the Marriott.com website. (Interestingly, when booking the Explore Rate via the Starwood site, the associates need to instead book by logging onto the ‘Bridge‘ website and family members are unable to make the bookings themselves).

It states here that you’ll need to show valid photo ID and either a Marriott Discount Card, a Starwood Authorization Form, an Explore Rate Authorization Form or a Quarter Century Club Card at check-in when using this rate:

How much can I save with the Marriott MMP code?

To compare the Explore Rate with the usual rate for your hotel booking, enter your destination city or hotel here on the Marriott website and add your dates and number of guests and then click on ‘Special Rates’ to add the code MMP to the ‘Corporate/promo code’ box.

We searched Marriott properties in or near Atlanta, Georgia, and selected the well-rated SPG Category 3 Atlanta Marriott Century Center/Emory Area for our dummy booking next month. It came out to just $59 plus taxes and fees when using the Explore Rate, or the grand total of $72.85:

While searching for your hotel booking using the MMP code, it shows you the usual cost for the same stay as a Marriott Rewards member, and in this case it would be $152 before taxes and fees, or the grand total of $179.80:

So booking the Explore Rate at $72.85 total including taxes and charges means members save a whopping $106.95, or 59% off this particular one-night stay! While it’s often 50% off when you use the MMP code, as you can see by this booking, you can also sometimes get more of a discount.

What else do I need to know about using the Marriott MMP code?

While using the Explore Rate is said to always save you money on your Marriott hotel booking, you may not earn points or stay credit or receive elite benefits by using it, so you should always weigh up the monetary saving with any potential loss before booking.

Note that immediate family members are named on Marriott as spouses, domestic partners, parents, parents-in-law, brothers, sisters and children of Marriott and former Starwood associates.
