Budget Discount Code

What’s a Budget Discount Code?

Budget Rent a Car assigns BCD (or ‘Budget Customer Discount’) numbers for certain customers to get specific discounts. BCD numbers can be negotiated for corporate employees as well as for other Budget partners and there’s even some codes that are just for specific ads or coupons.

With regards corporate rates, with Budget they do tend to be cheaper than public ones, so if your organization is affiliated with this car rental company, you may be able to save on your advance rental by adding the relevant BCD to your booking. It can even be stacked with discounts such as online or paper coupon codes. Major businesses and discount programs, from Air Canada to Costco to Shell, not only get cheaper rates with a particular Budget Customer Discount code, but also sometimes get value-added promotions and special rental benefits, too.

A BCD is usually a code that starts with a letter and then has 6 digits. There doesn’t seem to be a comprehensive list of codes online, so we scoured the internet to find as many as possible, to see how much you can save.

As expected, you can only generally use a corporate BCD if you have ID to prove you’re entitled to the rate when picking up your rental, or you could be charged the full daily rate.

How do I use a Budget Discount Code?

During your reservation, click on ‘use an offer code’ and then enter the relevant code in the ‘offer code (BCD)’ box:

Testing the Budget Discount Code list…

For our tests, we chose a rental picking up at and returning to Portland International, December 12th to 15th, 2016. The normal price for a standard, without using a code and before taxes and fees, came up at $120 if you pay at pickup or $102 if you pay now:

Note that including taxes and fees, however, the grand total would be $181.26 pay later or $151.53 pay now, but we’ll be comparing prices for the ‘pay at pickup price’ before taxes and fees are added.

These BCD numbers found a cheaper rate for a rental, compared to the $120 pay at pickup price we got without using a code:

Interestingly, none of the codes we tried gave us a more expensive rate. While most codes gave us just 5% off, Cendant employees are the clear winners here, with 18% off. The grand total for the test booking for Cendant employees, including taxes and fees, worked out at $152.99 pay later, compared to $181.26 pay later without using a code:

What else do I need to know about using a Budget Discount Code?

The Budget Business Program is where companies can sign up to get a negotiated corporate rate. It states that employees can get up to 30% off by using a BCD when booking in advance. We only managed to get up to 18% off with our tests, though the discount could well depend on the location, date, car type or other booking parameters.

You may be able to find your company’s BCD on this handy FlyerTalk thread or here on FatWallet. If you can’t find your code, you could ask HR if there is a BCD for you to use with Budget or contact Budget directly.
