There is an interesting piece of news on Asiana today – the company has seemingly launched a new program called ‘upgrade membership’.
The company sells upgrades from Business Class to First Class for 700,000 KRW ($610) for a one-time upgrade and just 1,300,000 KRW ($1,133) for unlimited upgrades to First Class.
The program will apparently be available for the A380 routes to New York and Los Angeles and to Frankfurt.
It’s not yet clear what kind of fare bucket the Business Class ticket has to book into. So far the Asiana website (which was never the easiest to begin with) is mum about any details.
If the ‘upgrade membership’ really includes all Business Class tickets the unlimited ‘upgrade membership’ is a crazy deal that is a no brainer who travels on Asiana a few items a year in Business Class.
It remains to be seen if that membership gives you a guaranteed upgrade or just an option – with this new ‘upgrade membership’ the First Class seats will go by quickly.
