How to save 50% by booking Club Carlson properties with bought Gold Points
I'm generally not a great fan of buying points but sometimes it can make a lot of sense.
For example I'm planning to be in Tel Aviv for New Years 2014. Prices for hotels at the beach aren't exactly low, with rates for the Sheraton, Hilton and Park Plaza all in the $250+ range.
Now as a Club Carlson credit card holder I can get two nights for the price of one when my name is on the reservation and I'm using points.
So here is my thinking:
– 2 nights for the Park Plaza (Best Flexible Rate) is $500
but
– If I purchase 40,000 Club Carlson Gold points I will be just 4,000 points short of the 44,000 points required for TWO nights
Since the purchase would cost me just $280, my effective rate would be $140, a 50% saving on the Lowest Rate offered.
– Too bad you can only buy 40,000 points per calendar year 🙁
Prices are in U.S. dollars and do not include applicable taxes.
Please allow 2-5 days for the purchased points to be posted to your account.
Transactions are limited to a combined maximum of 40,000 points, per receiving account, per calendar year.
Other hotels where I'd consider this is the Radisson New York City or the Radisson Blu in Dakar.
