Devaluation weekend on Veterans day from Hyatt and Delta

So I was mostly offline over Veterans days and what do I see coming back – two more devaluations. I guess we all have too many credit card miles for our own good!

Hyatt has finally introduced a category 7 πŸ™ and amended the award chart for the higher categories.

After my recent disappointing stay at the Park Hyatt in Paris I have fallen out of love with Hyatt's crown jewel hotels a bit. so the new category 7 does not bother me much. I'm bothered by the category change of a number of hotels I wanted to stay at next year.

All in all this devaluation is not devastating and was mostly anticipated. It's good to see that Hyatt Regency Incheon coming back as category 2. It's a great airport hotel with the best spa for an airport hotel.

The changes will only become effective for bookings after February 2014.

Delta also grabbed the moment and added a sprinkle of award chart devaluations of their own.

Most changes affect coach awards or the rather obscure medium or high level of award redemptions. However South Asia Business Saver awards are now 140,000 miles up from 120,000. Delta as part of Skyteam has pretty decent availability to Asia incl. South-East Asia with all the Chinese airlines plus Delta's own flights over the Pacific. I was hoping to redeem at the old rates.
