Cheap flights to Europe with Virgin Atlantic – just 13,000 miles and $98
Angelina showcases the newest and cheapest way to use miles for travel to Europe this summer.
Apparently Virgin Atlantic has abolished fuel surcharges on Economy redemption tickets . At least it does not show in the online interface anymore. We haven't heard from actual ticketing but it looks like it should work.
Some caveats:
– fuel surcharges haven't been lowered for Business Class at least for transatlantic destinations (Hong Kong to London has no fuel surcharge even in Business!)
– travel from the UK (all travel goes through London with Virgin America) incurs the UK departure tax increasing taxes and fees to >$350 (technically for flights that just connect in London that should not happen, but the award booking engine charges per segment, maybe the call center can improve that?)
Suddenly Flying Club miles are one of the most valuable currency out there! I can't believe I transferred all of them to Hilton Honors (which is not worth much anymore).
If you have miles left and are looking for a cheap way to Europe – book it now before Virgin considers otherwise. To return from Europe use United Mileage Plus miles or use AAdvantage Miles (on American Airlines flights only, to avoid BA fuel surcharges) – this is the best deal for the return.
