Spain updates, Thailand, Turkey goes into lockdown

Great news! Spain will officially be welcoming passengers with the digital green certificate in June. Spain’s tourism minister Fernando Valdes Verelst announced plans for a digital health pass that would allow passengers from around the world to travel to Spain, and just in time for the summer season! A few weeks back we saw the government of Thailand announce that the mandatory quarantine period will be shorter. The step after that would be opening key tourist spots, like Phuket, to international passengers once 70% of the population is vaccinated, with plans to fully reopen for tourism by October 1, 2021. However, with a rise in COVID-19 numbers, the Thai government decided to reverse the shorter quarantine period and make it even longer to 14 days. This mandatory quarantine will apply to all passengers regardless of vaccination status and PCR test results. You can read more here.
With the COVID-19 situation in India growing more and more concerning, U.S. President Biden has signed an order banning most travel from India to the U.S. starting May 4, 2021. For now, this travel ban is indefinite, and it will not apply to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. You can read more here.
Turkey is yet another country with a growing number of COVID-19 cases. As a response, the Turkish government announced a full lockdown from April 29 until May 17, 2021, in hopes of stopping the spread of the virus. However, international tourists will be exempt from lockdown. You can read more here.
