American Airlines Cuts International Flights
American Airlines Group on Saturday that they will implement a suspension of almost all long-haul international flights starting March 16, because of the reduced demand and travel restrictions due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Between March 16 and May 6, American Airlines will reduce its international capacity by 75%. American Airlines will continue to fly the following long-haul routes:
- One daily flight between Miami and London Heathrow airport
- One daily flight between Dallas Fort Worth and London Heathrow airport
- Three weekly flights between Dallas Fort Worth and Tokyo
From the official American Airlines announcement:
American will continue to take care of customers as this situation develops. The airline has announced its offer to waive change fees for customers who purchased tickets prior to March 15 for travel to Europe, including the United Kingdom or Ireland, through May 31. Additionally, American’s Reservations team will contact customers whose flights have been canceled directly by email or telephone. Customers who booked through a travel agent will be contacted by their agency directly.
Besides the huge schedule changes, American Airlines did not announce any additional changes. Unlike Delta Airlines that announced a grounding of over 300 planes and a 40% cut to their flight schedule.
