AirAsia X has long talked about flights to California. They intended on using their Airbus A330. The first aircraft has finally been delivered so the airline has hinted at the California route yet again.
AirAsia X has been interested in flying to the US for some time now. They began flights to Honolulu several days a week in 2017 and expanded the route to daily service last fall.
AirAsia X’s Muhammad Sharir was discussing the route at the Routes Online annual conference in Adelaide, Australia. Mr. Sharir said that the flights to the US mainland could start as soon as 2021. However, he did not go into detail as to where would flights originate and which US airport would they use. AirAsia X currently flies from Kuala Lumpur to Narita. Those flights could extend onto the US mainland, as a possible scenario.
AirAsia X and AirAsia have been enjoying great success as a low-cost and long-haul airlines.
