– IAG (BA’s parent company) is preparing a ‘hostile takeover’ of Norwegian after acquiring a stake of almost 5%
Norwegian has refused to sell the company early so far but has run into cash flow problems. IAG has been one of the company’s closest admirer and has been jealous to see a low-cost brand succeed on long haul routes.
Norwegian shares went up as the price IAG could pay may been 30-50% more than what Norwegian is worth.
If IAG succeeds they would be able to compete better with Lufthansa and their quickly scaling Eurowings and likely take on more destinations in France and Germany where Lufthansa dominates.
