Tell me more about Turo…
Formerly known as RelayRides and similar in concept to Getaround, this San Franciso-based company operates a peer-to-peer carsharing marketplace that allows private car owners to hire out their vehicles. You can rent a vehicle in US cities, including:
- Los Angeles
- San Diego
- San Francisco
- Washington, DC
Turo not only operates in the US but also in Canada and the UK, covering around 4,700 cities and more than 300 airport locations. With some listings, you can book instantly, like with Getaround. While Getaround users can unlock a car using the app if they have an active reservation, eliminating the need for owners and renters to meet in person, with Turo you either pick the car up locally or have it delivered to your doorstep or to an airport location.
Instead of renting a vehicle, however, you could sign up to list yours to make some extra cash, as there may be several days every month where your car is sat doing nothing. Hosts are said to cover their monthly car payments when renting it out for just nine days per month!
