yet another Qatar sale, KLM/ Joon plan Fortaleza hub, Eurowings blowing up, airberlin to stop long haul flights by Oct 15th, Intercontinental Hanoi opens

– Qatar has yet another sales from Europe to Asia, Australia at $1,386 RT in Business Class

newly launched Joon and KLM are trying to interconnect with Brazilian LCC GOL at Fortaleza airport

This is a great strategy. Fortaleza is in a perfect geographical location – it is closer to Africa than Sao Paulo and it’s likely the only airport in Brazil that feels more like Norway than Brazil. Now GOL (Review) is not my favorite airline – but you can’t have it all sometimes.

– former step child Eurowings (Germanwings was once the dominant brand after Lufthansa) is blowing up and Lufthansa can get enough of its new jewel

– it is almost ‘lights out’ for airberlin as all long-haul flights will cease by Oct 15th as the lessors want their jets back

It’s amazing that all this Etihad money has produced to tangible long-haul business (it seems nobody wants to compete with Lufthansa). No wonder Eurowings is growing by leaps and bounds.

Hanoi is getting more fancy and now has a brand new Intercontinental Hanoi hotel
