What’s the Bank of America Travel Center?
Bank of America customers can use the Travel Center service to book flights, hotels, car rentals and cruises. The prices are often similar to major OTA’s but you could also benefit from special deals on vacation packages. You can use the service even if you just have a Bank of America checking account, but BankAmericard Travel Rewards credit cardmembers get bonus rewards when purchasing from the Travel Center. While you earn 1.5 points per dollar spent on your purchases with this card, you also earn 3 points per dollar on purchases made through the Travel Center, with the solo exception of insurance purchases.
Is the Bank of America Travel Center worth using?
It’s possible to get a travel deal by using this site to book your travel, especially when you take the bonus points into consideration, but you’ll need to take the time to compare with booking elsewhere to ensure it’s worth it. If you do find a good deal on the Travel Center, it’s worth noting that if you need to make any changes to your airline reservation, you’ll be charged a flat fee of $30 plus the airline’s change fee, which can quickly add up. If you need to change a hotel or car rental reservation it costs $10.
As well as earning bonus points with bookings, BankAmericard cardholders can redeem their points using the Travel Center; Travel with Grant has a handy guide here.
What’s the deal with the BankAmericard Travel Rewards credit card?
The BankAmericard Travel Rewards Visa Signature credit card is currently offering 20,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days, worth $200 toward travel purchases. A travel credit is applied as a statement credit to your account to offset travel purchases from qualifying merchants in travel-related categories including:
- Trailer parks
- Car rental agencies
- Cruise lines
- Travel agencies
and much more – from circuses to boat rentals and aquariums!
Point-earning is unlimited with this card and your points never expire while your account is active and in good standing. There’s no annual fee to pay and no foreign transaction fees, which are huge pluses, and you’re rewarded more if you have an active Bank of America checking or savings account – and even more if you’re a Bank of America Preferred Rewards client.
