What’s the deal with Hilton HHonors MVP?
For several years now, Hilton has offered the MVP discount for those affiliated with a sports entity, a sports-related company or a sports group or event. The MVP code saves you 20% at participating hotels in the Hilton Worldwide portfolio both inside and outside of the US.
We’ve written about the MVP discount before here and here, to let you know that HHonors members affiliated with a sports group or event could save 20% off your stay. This includes a discount for coaches, leaders or participants of group travel for sports, who are asked to show credentials (such as an official business card with your team logo) when checking in.
In the past, the MVP rate was only bookable on the MVP site which you can access here. In recent times the site has been disabled, but it’s back again and working now. However, it’s handy to now know that you can book using the MVP code directly on the Hilton site too, but you need to log in to your HHonors account to do so and then manually add the code to your booking.
Now depending on the participating hotel, the rate rules may either state that you need to show proof of sports affiliation or just that you are a HHonors member:
Checking the MVP discount…
We checked the cost of a one-night stay at the Hilton Boston Downtown/Faneuil Hall on February 13th, 2017, and it came up as $199 for the Flexible Rate for non-members or $193 for the HHonors member Flexible Rate:
When booking via the MVP site (or by simply booking directly on Hilton by adding the corporate code MVP to your booking) the cost is instead around 20% off the Flexible Rate – $159 before taxes:

As LoyaltyLobby points out, if you’re still concerned that using the MVP rate will require sports ID at check-in, you can become a member of the US Golf Association for just $10 a year (or $20 for international members) here!
