What’s the deal with the Starpoints discount?
Starwood Preferred Guest members are currently targeted with up to a 50% discount when you buy Starpoints for yourself or as a gift through December 31st, 2016.
The minimum purchase with this offer is 5,000 Starpoints. If you buy the maximum allowed with this promotion at a 50% discount, that’s 1.75 cents each. Pay with a Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express and you’re effectively buying them for 1.7 cents each instead. Don’t forget that for every 20,000 Starpoints, you get 25,000 airline miles when you transfer, making the cost just 1.4 cents each!
How do I get the Starpoints discount deal?
Log in to your SPG account here to see the discount you’ve been targeted with and buy or gift at least 5,000 Starpoints by December 31st, 2016.
What else do I need to know about the Starpoints discount deal?
It doesn’t often make sense to buy Starpoints, even at the discounted rate, unless you need to top up your account for an award or a transfer to airline miles. However, if you’ve been targeted with the 50% discount, this is the best offer we’ve seen for buying Starpoints, so it may well be worth looking into.
