Starwood Corporate Rates

What are Starwood Corporate Rates?

Corporate travelers can often benefit from cheaper stays with select hotel brands and this includes Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Corporate discounts work by negotiating a discount – if a company has a large footprint in the area of the hotel the discount is likely bigger. The reverse is also true.

If you travel for business, you could get a much lower rate by booking your Starwood stay in advance online using a particular code. These corporate rates are usually stated as strictly only for corporate use by employees, so they are to be used at your own risk, especially as you may need relevant ID when checking in.

How do I use Starwood Corporate Rates?

If your company has a corporate account with Starwood, you can easily add the code (also known as a ‘SET number’ or ‘Starwood Preferred Guest Corporate Account number’) to your online reservation as follows:

  • Search the Starwood site for your hotel location and dates as usual
  • Enter the corporate code in the box marked ‘SET/Corporate Account #’ and click ‘UPDATE’:

Note that only four types of rates may be searched at a time on Starwood, so you may need to deselect one of the preselected rates before using your ‘SET/Corporate Account #’.

For our tests, we chose New York’s Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Chelsea on December 6th, 2016. It comes out at $439 plus tax for the Flexible Rate or $430 plus tax for the SPG member rate:

What else do I need to know about Starwood Corporate Rates?

It’s always useful to compare the corporate rate you’re using with other rates on the Starwood website, so you can see exactly how much of a discount you’re getting. In this instance, it pays to be a General Electric or Harvard employee to get the biggest discount of 18%, although you may well get a much better saving when searching other dates or properties.

It’s worth noting that just because some codes didn’t work for our test dates, it doesn’t mean that they won’t always work, so try the relevant code for your company each time you need to book on Starwood.

FlyerTalk can sometimes be a useful resource for hotel codes but with regards Starwood corporate codes, its policy is to not advertise any of them. The Hotel Corporate Codes site features ones you can use on Starwood and you can also find codes on sites such as Travel Codex via a Google search. If your business isn’t listed on any of these sites, you could ask HR if there is a corporate code that you can use. Starwood states that you can also contact its Worldwide Reservations Office for assistance with your booking if you don’t know your company’s code.

Keep in mind that many hotel brands are extremely vigilant about codes being abused and if you try to check in without proof that you are entitled to use a corporate code, you could lose your place to stay or end up having to pay the rack rate instead!
