Can Hyatt Corporate Rates really save you money on your hotel booking?

Hyatt Corporate Rates

What are Hyatt Corporate Rates?

Corporate travelers can often benefit from cheaper stays with select hotel brands and this includes Hyatt Hotels. Corporate discounts work by negotiating a discount – if a company has a large footprint in the area of the hotel the discount is likely bigger. The reverse is also true.

If you travel for business, it’s possible to get a lower rate by booking your Hyatt stay in advance online using a particular code. Plus with this hotel brand, you can always get some kind of discount off your Hyatt hotel booking simply by joining the Freelancer Union for free and then using the members’ corporate code B200936!

Corporate rates are usually stated as strictly only for corporate use by employees, so they are to be used at your own risk, especially as you may need relevant ID when checking in. Always read the rate rules when you use your company’s corporate code on Hyatt, as there are different rules for different companies. For instance, the AAA rate rules state that you must show your membership card at check-in, while the GE International rate just says it’s a specially negotiated rate that is not applicable to convention groups.

We’ve written about these Hyatt corporate codes before, where we found that using one with this brand doesn’t always save you money. In this article we’ll try a test booking to see what kind of discount you can get using various codes, however.

How do I use Hyatt Corporate Rates?

If your company has a corporate account with Hyatt, you can easily add the code to your online reservation by entering it into the ‘Corporate or Group Code’ box:

For our tests, we chose The Pike Long Beach Hyatt Centric hotel in California on November 7th, 2016. It comes out at $219 plus tax for the Standard Rate or $213 plus tax for the Hyatt Gold Passport member rate (both of which are flexible rates in this case as you can cancel 48 hours prior):

What else do I need to know about Hyatt Corporate Rates?

It’s always useful to compare the corporate rate you’re using with other rates on the Hyatt website, so you can see exactly how much of a discount you’re getting. In this instance, it pays to be a General Electric International, IBM, IBM Taiwan, Standard Charter or BP International employee to get the biggest discount of 12%, although you may well get a much better saving when searching other dates or properties.

This FlyerTalk post and this updated Hotel Corporate Codes post are both useful for Hyatt corporate codes, but you could also find one for your company with a Google search. If your business isn’t listed on any of the sites that you check, you could ask HR if there is a corporate code that you can use. If your business is a member of the Hyatt Company Travel Program, employees can utilize the stated corporate number and room rate for personal and leisure travel as well as for business travel.

Occasionally, a company doesn’t advertise the corporate code, but instead tells employees to call the hotel directly. An example of this is that FedEx employees are entitled to 10% off the Best Available Rate, as Hyatt is one of the preferred hotel programs, but there’s no actual code and it can’t be booked online.

Keep in mind that many hotel brands are extremely vigilant about codes being abused and if you try to check in without proof that you are entitled to use a corporate code, you could lose your place to stay or end up having to pay the rack rate instead!
