This was my second Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi Downtown Review and given it was still summer season the rates were much lower this time. I liked that hotel for its great location in ‘old’ Abu Dhabi near the Corniche and the friendly staff. It’s a great mid-range choice.
The staff was uber friendly and had no trouble giving me a room at 1 PM. As a IHG Platinum, they’d be ready to give me free valet parking (I had a car rented), a free alcoholic drink and an upgrade to a large suite.
Interestingly enough the front desk offered to charge me in full at the time of check-in. It was optional but this is a practice that seems to have spread more (like at the Radisson Libreville).
I loved the modern, clutter free and functional design of the suite. It was refreshingly cold and the free Internet easy to connect (though it was capped at under 2 Mbit).
Abu Dhabi temperatures aren’t fun in summer with 100+ degrees and high humidity but after dark it’s reasonable enough to walk from the hotel to the Corniche and the eateries without a heart attack.
