The British Airways Visa Signature Card
British Airways Visa Signature Card is one of my perennial favorite travel rewards credit cards. Read on to see what you can do with the bonus points that you earn with the British Airways Visa Signature Card.
The British Airways Visa Signature Card – The Offer
The British Airways Visa Signature Card is offering 50,000 bonus Avios when you spend just $3,000 in the first 3 months. The $95 annual fee is waived for first year of card membership.
- Every calendar year you make $30,000 in purchases on your British Airways Visa card, you’ll earn a Travel Together Ticket good for two years.
- No foreign transaction fees to pay when using your card abroad
With this card, you earn 3 Avios for every $1 spent on British Airways purchases and 1 Avios for every $1 spent on all other purchase.
The Travel Together Ticket can be an excellent choice as it also works with award redemptions. The caveat – flights must be on British Airways and must be from the United States. So one First Class redemption will become two – but you need to pay both fuel surcharges.
Now let’s have a look at what you can do with all those bonus points!
50,000 Executive Club Avios – What I would do with it
British Airways Executive Club has made it exceedingly hard to look at an award chart. Even if there would be one, it would not help too much, since redemption rates now feature so many exceptions and pricing changes.
In general British Airways Executive Club does charge fuel surcharges (which can be punishingly high on British Airways flights) so you want to redeem on partners usually. All Oneworld airlines are available for redemptions as well as a number of non-Oneworld partners.
Luckily British Airways Executive Club has a good award search engine at your disposal. Many partners show up online – but not all – so be vigilant.
In general the amount of Avios needed is based on distance and class of service. Business Class is twice of Economy and First Class is four times as expensive as Economy Class.
With British Airways Executive Club you are paying per segment (i.e. per take-off) so you want direct flights.
Here are some examples of excellent redemptions I have used in the past.
– New York to Montreal 4,500 Avios + $5
– US West Coast flights to the Hawaiian islands (can’t be booked online) price out at 12,500 Avios each way
– Flights from Hong Kong or from Brazil carry no fuel surcharges
– Flights on Air Berlin carry no fuel surcharges as well
Air Berlin has a host of trans-atlantic flights from it’s hubs in Dusseldorf and Berlin
– Short Haul Gulf Domestic First Class on Qatar (or Economy)
The reason you want First Class for those ultra-short hops is the access to the dedicated First Class lounge in Doha. Spend a day in luxury BEFORE your flight.
– Comair flights in South Africa
Comair is a British Airways subsidiary with a hub in Johannesburg and most flights are just 4,500 Avios to many destinations (incl. Victoria Falls)
The airline also flies to Mauritius but just once a week – each Saturday.
– British Airways Executive Club can also be transferred on a 1:1 basis to Iberia
Iberia has a different pricing mechanism (and fuel surcharges) as well as more partners like Royal Air Maroc at your disposal. Be warned though – getting these complex awards priced out with the Iberia agents will take lots of patience.
How can I complete the minimum spend?
Put all your regular spend on it and read our guide to manufactured spending. $3,000 in 3 months should be really easy!
What if my application was denied?
Did you know that almost all our applications get initially denied and eventually approved when calling the right reconsideration numbers?

This is enough for several free trips (flights and hotels). Go, go, go before these offers go away.
