What’s the scoop on the new Walmart Money Card and credit card rewards?

Walmart announced this week that customers with a MoneyCard, a Walmart Credit Card or a Walmart MasterCard can now benefit from its new-and-improved rewards system. April 1st, 2016, marked the start of the ‘3-2-1 Save’ cashback program, which gives all qualifying cardmembers in the US and Puerto Rico the opportunity to earn rewards for everyday purchases, including:

  • 3% back when you buy online at Walmart.com (applicable to all cardholders)
  • 2% back when you buy fuel at Walmart or Murphy USA gas stations (applicable to all cardholders)
  • 1% back on purchases you make in-store at Walmart (applicable to all cardholders)
  • 1% back anywhere the Walmart Credit Card or Walmart MasterCard are accepted (not applicable to MoneyCard customers)

You also receive cashback for Walmart.com purchases for Site to Store orders.

Tell me a little more about the Walmart Money Card and credit cards…

Walmart Money Card

The Walmart MoneyCard by Green Dot is a reloadable prepaid debit card that has a simple fee structure. You can pay for purchases with the card outside of Walmart without fees, as you would a normal debit card, but you should withdraw or load cash onto the card at Walmart in order to avoid fees. You can pick up a card from one of 4,500 Walmarts in-store for $1 or online for free.

With the 3-2-1 Save program, you can earn up to $75 a year in rewards and your cashback is credited to your MoneyCard card balance at the end of the Reward Year.

You can easily manage and access your money when you use the new MoneyCard app; download it here for iOS or here for Android.

The Walmart credit cards are both issued by Synchrony Bank. You can only use the Credit Card in-store at Walmart, at Walmart.com or in Sam’s Clubs, so it’s actually a store card, but the MasterCard can be used anywhere that MasterCard is accepted. With this cashback program, earning is unlimited.

If you don’t yet have a Walmart credit card, you can currently apply in-store to get a 10% statement credit of your first in-store or Walmart.com purchase, up to $25 in savings.

What else do I need to know about the Walmart Money Card and credit card rewards?

Existing Walmart Credit Card and Walmart MasterCard cardholders are automatically enrolled in the 3-2-1 Save cashback program, and you can just continue to use your current card to start earning the new rewards. When you register your Walmart MoneyCard with Cash-Back Rewards, you are also then automatically eligible.
