Aqua Pearl Waikiki, Honolulu Review

Another no-frills hotel in Waikiki? While I did enjoy my stay at the Ambassador, it wasn’t exactly luxury and I was not really looking forward to another no-frills stay. The Aqua Pearl Waikiki has even lower rates – often touching $59 for a basic room. I opted for a remodeled room (they call it a Junior Suite) for $99 plus tax and a $15 ‘resort fee’.

The hotel is located just behind Marukame Udon – one of my favorite eating spots in Waikiki.

Aqua Pearl is just two blocks from the beach (like pretty much everywhere in Waikiki). The lobby isn’t exactly inspiring and the elevator and hallways did not have me raise any expectations.

However, the agent mentioned an upgrade to a ‘Suite’. Oh and a suite it was – it was easily one of the biggest hotel rooms I have even gotten. The living room alone was probably 400 sq ft! Both bedrooms were big and the bathroom was gigantic as well. There was also a full kitchen and huge patio.

I was impressed! While not the newest furniture, it was all in good shape and decidedly low-key and functional. The hotel also gives out free DVD rentals and each TV has its own Xbox.

The internet was rather fast with about 3-5 Mbit depending on the time of day.

There is no breakfast here (again it’s close enough to many Waikiki places to eat, so not to worry) but there is the odd afternoon happy hour (with champagne and snacks once a week).

Aqua Hotels has a ton of properties all over Waikiki and does a good job managing some of the older inventory on the market.
