British Airways

What’s the scoop with British Airways?

From February 2nd, 2016, British Airways are making changes to the Executive Club pricing structure for reward flights starting or ending in the US. The change will affect shorter American Airlines and Alaska Airlines flights, which will now start from 7,500 Avios instead of 4,500 Avios (plus taxes, fees and carrier charges from $5.60).

Tell me a little more about British Airways’ decision…

The Avios prices for the shortest North American routes are apparently changing in order for BA to remain competitive. Most North American reward flight prices thankfully remain unchanged.

For flights that are under 650 miles:

  • Economy class redemptions will be 7,500 Avios instead of 4,500 Avios.
  • Business class redemptions will be 15,000 Avios instead of 9,000 Avios.
  • First class redemptions will be 30,000 Avios instead of 18,000 Avios.

What else do I need to know about British Airways’ decision?

If you book before February 2nd, 2016, then you won’t be affected by this change, so take advantage and get those flights booked now.
