The Brazilian airline Gol is an interesting airline – they partner with an eclectic mix of airlines around the world.
Gol’s loyalty program is called Gol Smiles and for most of these partners you can redeem miles right inside the online interface.
It is hard to get a hold of an award chart for GOL but if you type in a city pair it will come up with a redemption rate on a specific airline. The interface is slow and buggy but it works (note that Google Translate messes up the interface, try to use it in Portuguese)
Confusingly the rates for each airline (but same destination) can be different. Even more confusing the seat availability does NOT match partner availability like Etihad’s Guest Seat.
However Qatar prices out at 32,500 miles in First Class for Bangkok – Doha each way. The airline recently put their A380 First Class on this route.
Now the great news – Gol sells miles all the time. The regular purchase price is just 2 cents per mile! There were past promotion when it was as low as 1 cent per mile.
So 32,000 miles come to $640 for the miles. You still need to budget for taxes and fees. I haven’t been able to find out if Gol charges fuel surcharges on this flight (the miles need to be in your account to see the final pricing) – my guess is not but I can easily be wrong.
Even if you end up paying $800 in the end – it’s a great opportunity to experience Qatar First Class – a flight that sells for $2.8k right now.
You can also get the same price for bookings as far west as Cairo, Beirut or any other Middle East destination of Qatar airlines. Qatar runs just a Business Class cabin (likely in an A320) from Doha to Beirut though.
So sign up for Gol Smiles and read Mighty Travels every day for the next mileage bonus opportunity.
