We all know United Airlines is a great redemption candidate when using another Star Alliance program that DOES assess fuel surcharges – right?
Well it’s not that easy – United does charge fuel surcharges for certain routes were they are in deep joint ventures (read non-compete oligopolies) with another airline.
United flights to/from Europe carry a fuel surcharge – incidentally the exact charges that Lufthansa wants from you. Coincidence?
Fuel surcharges to Asia are a bit less but still it’s not zero (like it is within the US).
But also did you know that Singapore Airlines Krisflyer never charges fuel surcharges on United? Even over the Atlantic – any flight you want – no fuel surcharge is being charged. Sweet – isn’t it?
