Tell me about the Chase Sapphire Preferred card
We’ve written about the Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits many times before – it’s a king of travel cards for several reasons, including its valuable rewards and great redemption flexibility.
The card is one of the slickest cards to actually hold in your hands, as it’s made of metal and is virtually indestructible.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits from the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, which allows 1:1 points transfers to several airline and hotel programs (more below) and redemption of more than $500 in airfare when used for purchases within Ultimate Rewards – as you get 45,000 bonus points when you sign up and add an authorized user.
The card gives you 2 points per dollar on dining and any travel-related expenses and the $95 annual fee is waived in the first year.
What are the Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits?
With a successful application, you get 45,000 Ultimate Rewards!
– You get 40,000 Ultimate Rewards points just for signing up and completing a minimum spend of $4,000 in the first 3 months of account opening.
– You also get 5,000 extra points for adding an authorized user (such as your partner).
What would I use the points for?
One of the Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits is that Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred to a number of partners, which gives you an enormous choice of awards.
1) Transfer to Hyatt to get two nights at the gorgeous Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa
This Park Hyatt is located on a private island, one hour south of Male Airport. It looks breathtaking and also prides itself on many favorable reviews.
There are more Category 6 Hyatt properties, including the Andaz 5th Avenue in New York, that also make for a great redemption.
2) A luxury one-way business class trip from Asia to Tahiti
Transfer 45,000 points to United MileagePlus and you can fly on Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand from anywhere in Southeast Asia to Tahiti.
3) A luxurious Korean Air flight from Brazil to Los Angeles
Korean Air resumed its Chase Ultimate Rewards point transfer on January 26th, so once again you can use the Ultimate Rewards Transfer interface to transfer your miles to Korean Air SKYPASS.
If you fly business class from Brazil to Los Angeles, it’s just 52,500 miles and there’s no fuel surcharges (although they do apply in the other direction).
4) Need more options?
The Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits from even more options, including flights in Micronesia with United/Star Alliance, 4 nights at the Marriott Jakarta or a whirlwind economy round-trip through Europe from the Azores to Greece via Norway – these are just 30,000 United MileagePlus miles each.
How can I complete the minimum spend?
Put all your regular spend on it and read our guide for ‘manufactured spending’. $4,000 in 3 months should be really easy!
What if my application was denied?
Did you know that almost all my applications get initially denied and eventually approved when calling the right reconsideration numbers?
