Uber is doubling down on the ride-sharing market. The company has managed to become the dominant ride-share player, overtaking Lyft with extremely low prices. I can't think of anyone who hasn't signed up to Uber, but if you haven't yet, you can do that using this link and get $30 off your first ride.
In San Francisco, UberPool now offers $5 flat rides ($15 to the airport) and Lyft is offering $2.25 rides anywhere in the city (using Lyft Line). This has already changed the way San Franciscans think about travel (good riddance to the dysfunctional Muni system) and there's less car ownership than ever before (not that SF had less cars at any time).
Uber drivers strike me as friendly, professional and have the newest cars – often a brand-new Toyota Prius. I rarely leave the house without getting an Uber these days.
