Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer has announced a new option to redeem for flights with the SIA subsidiaries Tiger and Scoot soon. So far you were only able to redeem KrisFlyer miles on the Star Alliance network, Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Virgin Australia flights.
Most likely the rate will be 1 cent per KrisFlyer mile – that sounds low, but Tiger fares can be extremely cheap and there are usually no fuel surcharges.
As an example – Chiang Mai to Jakarta will cost you 12,500 KrisFlyer miles and about $120 in fuel surcharges when booked in economy one-way with KrisFlyer miles on Silkair/Singapore Airlines.
Tiger has a $144 fare (bags and food are extra) and assuming you can redeem it for 14,400 KrisFlyer miles, this is not a bad deal.
