Hotel Review – Mercure Naha, Okinawa, Japan

While I initially wanted to stay at at the DoubleTree Naha, I had waited too long to follow-up with a booking. By the time I was ready to book, the rates went up to $130+ a night.
The Mercure Naha Hotel is just 4 stops by monorail from Naha Airport. It's part of a new development and seems brand new (though the core building might be a retrofit).
The rates were just about $55 a night at my time of booking.
The rooms are big for Japanese standards (slightly bigger than at the DoubleTree) and the hotel was very quiet at the time of my stay. Now this is a Mercure and not a luxury hotel, so the toiletries come out of a big bottle and beds are firm but on the small side.
The internet was really fast – often topping out at 20 Mbit.
Since my rate did not include breakfast, I did not eat here, but instead walked over to the Climax coffee shop that is located downtown.
I felt I got fantastic value from a clean, modern, mid-range hotel. With the yen at 120 per dollar, Japan has become great value. I can imagine getting similar value in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe.
