What is the Chase Sapphire Preferred card?
The Chase Sapphire Preferred card is one of the slickest cards to actually hold in your hands. It's made of metal (not plastic) and is virtually indestructible.
The card puts you into the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, which allows 1:1 points transfers to several airlines and hotel programs (more below) and redemption of up to $500 in airfare when used for purchases within Ultimate Rewards.
The card also gives you 2 points per dollar on dining and any travel related expenses.
The annual fee is waived in the first year and then it is $95 after that.
What do I get?
– 40,000 Ultimate Rewards points just for signing up
– 5,000 extra points for adding an authorized user (such as your partner)
You will need to complete a minimum spend of $4,000 in the first 3 months of account opening.
What would I use it for?
Chase Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred to a number of partners and give you an enormous choice of awards.
1) Transfer to Hyatt and enjoy two nights in the super-luxurious Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa
Once you complete your minimum spend and add an authorized user, you are just 1,000 points short of the 50,000 points needed for this awesome redemption.
The hotel is located on a private island, one hour south of Male Airport. It does not just look breathtaking; it also prides itself on hundreds of favorable reviews.
There are a number of other Category 6 Hyatt properties, such as the Andaz 5th Avenue in New York, that also make for a great redemption.
2) A luxurious business class trip from Asia to Tahiti one-way
If you transfer 45,000 points to United MileagePlus, you can fly on a combination of Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand from anywhere in South-East Asia to Tahiti.
3) A luxurious flight from Brazil to Los Angeles with Korean Air
Korean Air has a so-called 5th freedom flight from Sao Paulo to Los Angeles. If you fly from Brazil to Los Angeles, you pay just 52,500 miles in Business Class and pay no fuel surcharges (they apply in the other direction, though).
You can transfer 52,500 miles to Korean Air SKYPASS via the Ultimate Rewards Transfer interface.
4) Need more options?
Other great options include flights in Micronesia with United/Star Alliance, 4 nights at the Marriott Jakarta and a whirlwind trip through Europe from the Azores to Greece via Norway all for just 30,000 United MileagePlus miles (in Economy, round trip).
How can I complete the minimum spend?
Put all your regular spend on it and read our guide for 'manufactured spending'. $4,000 in 3 months should be really easy!
What if my application was denied?
Did you know that almost all my applications get initially denied and eventually approved when calling the right reconsideration numbers?
