The FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature is a bit of an undiscovered gem. It will earn 4x for groceries when redeemed for airfare. No other card does that without a limit!

The card comes with a solid 20,000 points sign-up bonus (enough for $400 in airfare or $300 in hotels) and carries no annual fee for the first year. There is also a sister product – the U.S. Bank FlexPerks Business Edge Travel Rewards card with similar benefits.

You will earn 20,000 FlexPoints after spending $3,500 within four months of the account opening.

You will earn two FlexPoints per dollar spend on gas, groceries, airline spend and telecommunication expenses. Note that there is no limit on the 2x!

You will earn 1 FlexPoint per dollar for all other spend (until you reach $120,000 in spend).

This translates into 2% cash back when redeemed for airline tickets for the exact purchase value e.g. 50,000 FlexPoints for a ticket of up to $1,000. 2% is very generous but you essentially get a 4x when buying groceries and redeeming for airline travel!

The award chart for airfare is here. Note that you will have to find a ticket that catches that prices almost perfectly at $400 to maximize the value of 20,000 points.

20,000 points also buy you $300 in hotel nights anywhere in the world.

Since 'award tickets' are just normal tickets bought for you on behalf of US Bank, these tickets earn miles just like any other tickets.

The annual fee is waived the first year. Just $49 afterwards.

$25 airline allowance with each award ticket. For each redeemed award ticket, US Bank will throw in a $25 allowance for incidentals such as snacks.

The card includes the following insurance benefits:

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver
Lost Luggage Reimbursement
Travel Accident Insurance
Travel and Emergency Assistance Services
