Barclaycard Travel Community – An easy and fun way to earn lots of bonus miles!

Posted on October 13, 2014 by in Travel Deals

Barclaycard Travel Community is a place where you can share your travel stories and experiences, learn about your next destination or ask for recommendations from other travelers. You don’t have to be a Barclaycard cardholder to join the site, but in terms of travel hacking, read on to see why you really should join if you are a Barclaycard Arrival cardmember and have a few minutes spare every day…

When you complete a basic profile with with the Barclaycard Travel Community, you are awarded 500 Participation Miles. You then earn 150 miles each time you write a 50 word story and attach a unique photo. By adding map details to your story (e.g. how you got there, where you ate, what you saw) you can earn up to a further 250 miles (10 miles per detail for up to 25 details) per story. Kudos from another member gets you 10 miles each. Now this may not sound like a lot but when you add them up, that’s at least 400 Participation Miles for a short story with a photo that has map links. This may only take you a few minutes.

If you don’t have a Barclaycard Arrival card, these Participation Miles really don’t amount to much at all and I wouldn’t recommend bothering (2,500 miles equals a $5 Amazon voucher)…

However, if you’re a Barclaycard Arrival cardmember, your Participation Miles are transferred to your card account every month. 400 Participation Miles equals 400 miles and that’s for just a few minutes of your time. You’d have to spend $200 on purchases with your Barclaycard Arrival to get 400 miles normally.

Now think about it this way…

The Barclaycard Travel Community state that you can post up to 5 travel stories per individual city, state or country. That’s still an awful lot of stories to tell…

One member of the community posted a screenshot of his earnings on Reddit – an unbelievable 173,390 miles earned between June and September this year alone:

Definitely worth a shot, wouldn’t you say? 😉 While most readers may only realistically earn a few hundred miles or so a day, some members have gone as far as employing cheap travel writers to earn them extreme amounts of bonus miles!

While it hasn’t been publicized, the blog stated this year that they will be limiting each member to 1,000 stories. With 150 points for each story/photo and 250 points for adding 25 map details to each one, that’s about 400,000 miles even before other members have given you kudos, thank you very much!
