Did you know that IHG Rewards has a friends and family rate? The rate code was originally designed for friends and family of the IHG hotel program but it has been widely advertised and promoted to the general public.
The friends & family program will give you up to 30% in discounts on the best rates available.
Here is a test that I just ran for Montreal, Canada.
Friends & Family Rates
The rates are 15% lower in this example. Other hotels may give you up to 30% off.
So should you always book friends and family rates now?
There are a couple of drawbacks to using the IHG friends and family rate:
– the friends & family rates will not earn any points
– the reservations are ineligible for any IHG promotions
– European properties often consider friends & family rates as prepaid and non-refundable
– you will need to print out the voucher including the employee name (it's displayed on the links above) – although very often the hotel will NOT ask for it
