The Mexico City Airport (MEX) Terminal 1 isn't the most comfortable so I was happy to see an American Express VIP Lounge logo before security.

The lounge had just opened at 5.30AM and the cleaning staff were still rolling through to get the lounge set up. I was really sleepy as well, so picture quality may have suffered quite a bit.

Nevertheless, a number of passengers were already in the lounge for the many early-hours departures to the US.

There is no self-service in this lounge! There is a menu with different options that are complimentary or on a paid-for basis. I went for cereal, the bread selection and yogurt and thought it was really good. The coffee wasn't as good and I rather had more of the juices served.

I actually like self-serve since it gives you a better selection and it's easier to get more of what you like.

The staff were really courteous and spoke a decent amount of English.

I left early since I found it hard to estimate the crowds at security (there weren't any). The area for the United gate is a bit removed from the main terminal and there are no lounges in that part of the terminal.
