United is introducing it's new award chart that makes certain routes substantially more expensive on Saturday February 1st. First Class Travel with partners to Africa, Asia and the Middle East becomes much more expensive.
Business Class travel is going up about 35% across the board using partners – less so using United only.
Economy Class Travel is not impacted in a major way though.
What it makes sense to book now:
– First Class Travel to Asia using partners such as Asiana, Thai Airways or ANA up to 365 days out
– First Class Travel to Asia using Lufthansa in the next 14 days (best route right now with the best availability is DFW)
– Trips to Africa, Europe, Middle East in Business Class in the next 365 days if your dates are rather fixed
– if you are traveling in the next 2 weeks and plan to upgrade to Lufthansa First Class
I just booked an award as follows:
SFO-DFW-FRA-KIX-BKK (all in First Class with United, Lufthansa and Thai Airways A380)
BKK-CTU(Stop)-ICN-FRA-MCO-PHX (all in Business Class on Thai, Asiana, Lufthansa and US Airways)
It's most likely the last time I can travel via Europe to Asia using Lufthansa First Class – guess all good things come to and end!
