Back at FTU LAX in December 2012 I asked the Hyatt representative on stage when cash & points redemptions would come to Hyatt. Today it has happened!
Cash & Points are a great option to get affordable hotel rates. Before Starwood devalued its award chart earlier this year 90% of my stays were Cash and Points redemptions. I had some fantastic stays like in the Le Meridien Siem Reap.
Categories 2-5 immediately show their value as the co-pay is affordable (I like to keep each hotel night under $100). Even the rates for category 6 seem reasonable which does include the Park Hyatt in the Maldives (pictured above).
Hyatt also gleaned at Club Carlson and decided to make stays eligible for elite night accrual and pay points for the cash part. This is great news since you can now earn Hyatt Diamond status with 25 stays using Cash & Points alone! This is fantastic news since award stays did not count toward elite nights so far.
Cash & Points availability is capacity controlled – so the hotel (or a smart algorithm) decides about availability.
Although I had my issues with a Hyatt property recently I really like those changes.
Hyatt also throws in a 20% discount for elite members (Diamond and Platinum). I doubt this will be a great benefit but I'm happy to be convinced otherwise.
