Aeroplan changing the award chart again

Posted on June 27, 2013 by in Aeroplan

Aeroplan is serious about getting rid of eager Flyertalkers redeeming awards to Asia it seems. Not long ago this was the award too book with no fuel surcharges, generous round-the-world routing, 2 stops and and open-jaw and low mileage requirements. Aeroplan is also an American Express transfer partner making it easy to add on points.

After introducing fuel surcharges for all but a few Star Alliance partners Aeroplan is now further increasing the mileage requirements for the best trip possible with Aeroplan miles.

This is now one of the worst award charts in all of Star Alliance now. I'm curious how this will effect Aeroplan's attractiveness as Frequent Flyer Program.

You have until January 1st 2014 until the changes will go into effect.

If you have enough Aeroplan miles redeem them before that day. A fantastic trip can be two weeks round-the-world in Business Class using United and Singapore Airlines. Both do not incur a fuel surcharge. Aeroplan allows a round-the-world routing without issues.
