A trip to Peru brought them face-to-face with the awe-inspiring heights of Machu Picchu. “No matter how many photos you’ve seen, Machu Picchu will take your breath away when you’re there looking at the crazy mountains it’s built into,” Brandon says.

And learning to dance salsa in steamy Cali, Colombia remains one of Amy’s trip highlights: “The Colombians we met were so warm and welcoming. The country felt full of life.”

“We were looking for that quintessential honeymoon experience of swaying palm trees, white sand beaches, and colorful coral reefs,” Lani explains. “But we got so much more by exploring multiple islands.” Their first stop in French Polynesia, Bora Bora, seemed straight out of a postcard with its emerald peaks, luxury overwater bungalows, and snorkeling with sharks and stingrays. However, less developed Huahine offered opportunities to immerse themselves in Polynesian culture. “On Huahine we stayed in locally owned guesthouses, attended a fire dance ceremony, and sampled poisson cru, raw fish marinated in coconut milk.”
Next up was Moorea, with jungle-covered volcanic peaks framing bright turquoise waters perfect for swimming with manta rays. Lani’s favorite stop was Fiji for its warm, welcoming locals and wealth of ecotourism. “We got to hike through mountaintop cloud forests, kayak mangrove-lined rivers, and meet locals at a kava ceremony.” She adds, “Every island had such a different energy. If we’d only gone to Bora Bora, we would have missed out on so much.”
Over in the Caribbean, Carrie and Jeremy island hopped through some of the world’s top beach destinations. From partying at Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman to scuba diving with sharks in the Bahamas, they discovered every island has distinct offerings. Historic architecture and pastel colors charmed them in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, while St. Kitts tempted with rainforest ziplines and plantation tours. “We were amazed by the diversity, from untamed Dominica with its boiling lava lakes to glitzy St. Barts appealing to billionaires,” Jeremy says. “The food was different everywhere too, like proper British teas in Anguilla to spicy Jamaican jerk chicken.”
Luxury seekers have their pick of exclusive private island resorts like Musha Cay in the Exumas, owned by David Copperfield, or Richard Branson’s Necker Island. For a social scene, bars and nightclubs keep the party going in Aruba. “We had our best beach day in Antigua, with pink and white sands against bright turquoise waters,” Carrie says. She recommends at least two weeks island hopping: “You need enough time on each island to appreciate its individual personality.”
