Kimpton EPIC Hotel Miami Review
The Kimpton EPIC Hotel, Miami is a new development right in the middle of downtown Miami at Brickell Av.
We arrived quite early at the hotel but the extremely friendly front desk agent had no trouble finding a room for us at that early hour. The hotel has a small footprint, at street level only. The guest rooms spread out 28 floors up and the pool and the restaurant are on the 16th floor.
We loved the room - it was spacious, was held in bright colors and everything seemed to function exactly the way you would expect. I could not find anything to fault really! The view towards the south of Brickell Avenue was superb despite this rainy weather in Miami.
There is considerable street noise even on this high floor but the hotel has installed double plane windows that keep almost all sound out. However, the area is known as a supercar race track at night. Despite the excellent insulation, you will hear them roaring through downtown.
The WiFi was fast and clocked in at 50 Mbit and was very stable. The air conditioning was completely inaudible and cooled the room down perfectly. I also loved the bed which was hard enough for me but would still qualify as soft enough for most other guests (who often prefer softer mattresses).
Kimpton provides complimentary wine tastings during the happy hour from 5-6 PM.
There is a first-floor restaurant that specializes in Japanese cuisine that caters to a rather high-end crowd including dress codes and $50 entrees. It also had a two-hour wait when I walked by at 8 PM.
The hotel restaurant was equally busy and seats were not available - I would not even be able to get a drink at the bar.
The front desk staff mentioned that they could sell rooms for $699 + $200 in fees and would still sell out. Something is going on in Miami and the no lockdown policy the state has adopted clearly pays off for hotel owners in the city currently.
Downtown Miami has changed a lot and is now home to dozens of high-rise skyscrapers - but the city kept investing in parks and public infrastructure. It is a great place to go for a run or stroll right outside the Kimpton EPIC Hotel Miami.
In sum - this was a near-perfect hotel stay. The staff seemed competent, the rooms brand new and worked almost perfectly. The location makes it easy to combine business and pleasure. The hotel seems aware of its own success and the dining/ bar should provide more seats (though that is a challenge with social distancing).
