The Venetian Resort Las Vegas is part of the core 'strip' in Las Vegas. The original development by the Sands corporation was extended by the Palazzo tower in 2007. The Venetian has been a mainstay of the Las Vegas strip for more than 20 years now. While you can see the age it is still an impressive property. The Venetian is also the biggest hotel development in the worldand the Sands corporation' flagship property.

We arrived on a late Saturday night and were simply not prepared for the crowds in the public walkway (to get to the hotel it is quite a walk from the public garage). This looked much more like a boom not a bust time despite Covid-19.

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas is an IHG property but tried to hide it inside the hotel as possible. Check-in was rather slow despite the rather small lines. Currently, the newer Palazzo tower is only used for the weekends and the Venetian tower for all weekday stays.

At that time, the state of Nevada enforced a 50% occupancy policy. However, judging from the massive lines at all elevators that are being taken as a 50% occupancy (average during a month) - not at all times.

It took a long time to make it up to the 18th floor. Our room was MASSIVE - easily above 700 sq feet. This was a standard room - the Venetian prides itself as an 'all-suite hotel' and they deliver. The bathroom itself was my favorite - it was in great shape.

While the hotel runs a no-smoking policy it seems the guests easily disagree with that and the marijuana smell is just breathtaking in most floors/ elevators and public areas (not near the casino areas though).

The bed was way too soft for my taste but it was indeed enormous.

I liked the initial very fast Internet (50Mbit+) but it would slow down quite a bit over time.

The air condition was great and quiet enough - even for me. It kept the temperature well controlled despite the scorching hot outside air.

Most of the shops, cafes, and restaurants at the Venetian Mall were open during late July 2020. However the prices are high and quality low - think of it like an airport (with too many captive customers). I preferred to drive off the strip - there are a number of excellent eateries and cafes just 2-3 miles away from the Venetian.

While the hotel prides itself with 16 pools - these are very small and shallow. During the weekend afternoons, the wait was often 2 hours to even be allowed to the pool area. Even during the week, these pools are crowded and the sun ferocious. Like many other Las Vegas hotels, it is less of a family-friendly environment. Fortunately, kids ARE allowed at pools (unlike many other Las Vegas hotels).

In summary - I enjoyed my time at the Venetian. I liked the huge rooms, the fast WiFi and good Air conditioning and superb bathrooms. Parking is free and rental cars very affordable in Las Vegas so I felt a car came in very handy (especially given the Venus-like temperatures). There is a growing issue with the kind of crowds the hotel attracts (That is likely nothing new). The crowds during the weekend can be menacing - but weekdays are often much better.

I wish the pool area would be quieter and had more space available.

Current weekday rates are below $100 (plus $50 resort fee). Weekend rates are around $150 plus resort fees.
