Hampton by Hilton Nanning Review

The Hampton by Hilton Nanning is outside the Nanning city center (which is roughly near the Mixc Mall) and a new development that huddles a tangential artery towards the city. Google Maps DOES not have the right location but most Chinese apps have.

The front desk did not speak a word of English and skipped any formalities about Diamond status or any communication. I was gestured to show my passport, pay for the stay upfront and handed a room key. No other information was provided. That was a rough welcome!

My room however was brand new and reminded me of the Courtyard Seoul - a great modern chic. I wanted a quiet and non-smoking room. However my room was towards the street (no other rooms were available unfortunately) and it reeked of smoke. It seemed all other guests smoked in their rooms. The AC would transport the smoke into my room as well. Without AC it was simply too hot so I felt I was in a airport smoking lounge for two nights :(

The Internet wouldn't work on day one but was rather fast at 5 Mbit on day two. I walked down to the breakfast the next morning with low expectations but found the breakfast spread to be VERY good - easily the best I have seen in China. Lots of fresh Chinese/ Vietnamese and Western items with awesome fruit. The super helpful breakfast staff also helped.

The hotel posts rated around $50 and delivers a great hardware for the price. I wish the management would enforce their existing non-smoking policy rigorously and hire staff with minimal English. This could be a great hotel - it has great interior architecture, great rooms and good food.
