Chase & Hyatt have been fine-tuning their credit card offers. The latest incarnation still offers the same benefits as before but a higher sign-up bonus.

World of Hyatt Credit Card – Benefits

  • earn up to 50,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points after you spend $9,000 within the first six months

Yes $9,000 is steep but you get more time to do so. Chase has been playing with the high initial spend requirements lately and now it has hit the World of Hyatt card.

  • earn 2x at restaurants, coffee shops, local transit, taxis, rides-shares and the gym

This sounds like the Chase Sapphire Preferred to me – however Chase seems to play with what they include and exclude in the cards broader categories.

  • one free night (category 1-4) after each renewal or after spending $15,000 per anniversary year
  • automatic Hyatt Discoverist status

Discoverist status really does not get you much but it may be helpful in a friendly argument for a better room.

World of Hyatt Credit Card – Best redemptions

In the past I felt the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa was one of the best redemptions. However prices in the Maldives have come down and now the US – especially Hawaii – has some of the most expensive hotel properties.

The Andaz Maui and the Hyatt Residence Club Maui, Kāʻanapali Beach are now topping the list of where I would use 60,000 points for two nights.

There are more Category 6 Hyatt properties.

I recently redeemed for 5,000 points each in Phoenix which has room rates for most Hyatt Place properties of $300+ in spring and in Hawaii for the Hyatt Place in Waikiki, Honolulu (just 12,000).

I generally have gotten redemption values of 4-5 cents per World of Hyatt point but then again I love Hyatt Hotels to death.

How to get approved for the Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card?

Chase has gotten rather picky with approvals and has introduced a number of rules.

You can only have one Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card per person at one time.

You can not have received a bonus within the last 48 months for this card.

You can NOT have opened more than 5 credit cards in the last 24 months with ANY credit card issuer. However in reality Chase may only see a fraction of the cards opened with other issuers.
