Big plans for Marriott branded hotels in Africa, incl. Ritz Carlton Zanzibar and Accra Marriott

Marriott and Starwood have big plans for Africa and have a number of new hotels in the pipeline. Africa is the South-East Asia in it’s infancy and after many decades of slim GDP growth many countries are now racking up big increases in GDP (and spending power).

Marriott acquired the South-African based Protea group and has inherited a lot of properties all over the continent (primarily in Southern and Eastern Africa). The Protea properties are often far from Marriott standard (like the Protea Kuramo Waters in Lagos) but deliver on the ground knowledge how to run hotels in the often challenging environment.

Here are the upcoming hotels to open in Africa with many more being added to the pipeline:

Sheraton Bamako

Protea Hotel by Marriott Constantine

Accra Marriott Hotel

– Sheraton Abidjan and Four Points by Sheraton Abidjan, Ivory Coast

– Renaissance Landmark Lagos Hotel

– Marriott Executive Apartments, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria

– Le Meridien Accra, Ghana

– Protea Hotel by Marriott Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Ritz-Carlton Zanzibar

– Aloft Port Louis
