Alitalia MilleMiglia and Maggiore.it have a rather incredible promotion right now – earn ~15,500 MilleMiglia miles with just one car rental in Italy until October 1st.
This might be a typo so I checked the Italian page as well and it shows everywhere.
AUTUMN PROMO: 15,000 BONUS MILES UNTIL 31 OCTOBER!
These exclusive benefits* are reserved only to MilleMiglia Club members:
Discount on car hire: up to 8% on the best car rates available at the time of booking
Standard Miles: 600 miles on each car rental in Italy plus 300 bonus miles for each day you rent the car (up to no more than 4,800 miles). For the fourth car you hire over a period of 12 months, you get a loyalty bonus of 1,000 miles
Promotional miles if you hire a car before 31 october 2017: 15,000 bonus miles in addition to the standard Club miles
Special free services: extra driver and “Young Driver Fee” (for Members under 25 years of age)
Car rentals in Italy are pretty affordable and can be had from $30 at non-airport locations.
There isn’t a lot of other language included – you may even be able to earn 15,000 for every rental in Italy with the same Millemiglia account.
The Alitalia award chart isn’t terrible but they charge the full fuel surcharges.
Usually flying Delta from the US to Europe and Tel Aviv is the most coveted redemption as this itinerary has no fuel surcharges.
There is a the big risk of an Alitalia bankruptcy going the same was as Air Berlin and that miles might be worthless once this happens. There is at least a 50% chance this happens. But this still gives you ‘7,500 miles per rental’ from gamblers point of view.
If you have car rentals in Italy coming up this is a no-brainer. If you live close I would consider a ‘mileage run’ and get to see some fine roads in Northern Italy.
