We recently announced a giveaway of a free night at just about any Radisson/Club Carlson property and our lucky winner, Vika, has reviewed her stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel Kyiv Podil in Ukraine’s capital.
“It was my first stay in the Radisson/Carlson network and we chose the Radisson Blu Hotel Kyiv Podil. The hotel is well-located in the old historical part of the city, close to Contractova Square, Dnieper River, and other points of interest. It’s around 2 km from Kiev’s main street, Khreshchatyk, but not far from a metro station, although it’s better to use Uber – the minimum cost of a ride here is 40 UAH ($1.55).
The other buildings around the hotel are old and in need of renovation, but the area has a good aura. Rates at this property start at $150, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you traveling on a budget (better check Airbnb). However, it’s popular for business events and was almost fully booked when we visited.
Check-in was at 4PM and no credit card was needed. The front desk said only 3 rooms were available. The hall and reception areas were nice and there’s a cafe inside too. It all looks comfortable for short business meetings.
My room was on the 7th floor, at the top of the building. The room was bright, with a transparent bathroom view and a kind of ‘Spanish balcony window’ which can be unlocked so then you’re upgraded to a smoking room using a shower cap!
The room was mostly clean, except for the tea tray area, as you may be able to see in the photos. The bed and pillows were lovely and soft.
No bathrobes were to be found (although we’d seen them on a TV hotel ad) and there was only one pair of slippers (a very valuable souvenir). The minibar was closed, although it can be activated at reception, and there was one complimentary bottle of water on the nightstand. There’s a hairdryer in the room but from that side of the bed, you can’t switch the light off.
The fitness room is on the second floor and it’s well-equipped.
Breakfast was not included and cost 20 euros per person, which is too much for Kiev. However, there’s a lot of restaurants nearby so you could eat out instead.
The staff at this Radisson Blu were all helpful and nice, so overall I would rate this hotel 4 out of 5″.
