MTX connect has an awesome promotion in the Miles & More partner program right now. If you order a new SIM card, active it and load at least EUR 20 as credit you will earn 6,000 miles! In essence you can ‘buy’ miles for just 0.43 cents per mile and you get a very useful product (similar to the Skyroam device – see my review here) on top of it.

Every ‘load’ after, the initial bonus is done, will get you 50 miles per Euro – that’s still an excellent value as this is like ‘buying’ Miles & More miles for 2.2 cents per mile (and get a useful product for free with it when you travel to Europe). Miles & More currently has no publicly available option to buy miles.

Any Miles & More member is eligible for the promotion.

How does the 6,000 Lufthansa Miles & More miles for $22.48 with MTX connect deal work?

Note that this won’t last forever:

Cooperation with MTX Connect will be terminated on September 30, 2016, the option to earn miles for current customers will be available until March 31, 2017. Miles earned during campaigns are credited in accordance to terms of campaigns.

5,000 miles are awarded for the first top-up for 20 Euro from 4 August 2016 to 8 January 2017

The SIM card itself is free (also no shopping and handling). Once it arrives you simply ‘load’ EUR 20 to it and start using the credit when you travel to Europe.

MTX charges EUR 3.50 per day (up to 150 MB per day) for mobile data – so 20 EUR will get you 6 full days of roaming (besides the 6,000 miles).

Here is the coverage map for MTX – service is up and running for most European countries and Israel.

How to spend the Miles & more miles?

I outlined a number of ‘exotic’ Miles & More promotions recently. 35,000 Miles & More miles get you to Central Asia from Hawaii in Business Class, 17,000 miles get you from the US to Mexico (in Economy) or on the United transcontinental p.s. service (availability is an issue for the latter). Personally I’m trying to get enough miles to fly this route:

MightyTravels 2016-09-12 at 12.35.07 AMThis is Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Miles and More requires by far the lowest amount of miles out of all Star Alliance programs. There is a $100 fuel surcharge so maybe I’ll just buy the ticket.
