I'm usually hesitant to book a chain hotel that I haven't heard of that shows as a great deal on Expedia, but the [Village Hotel Edinburgh](https://www.village-hotels.co.uk/hotels/edinburgh/) seemed too good to pass up. For £64 ($84), it would indeed offer something more akin to an Aloft experience.

The hotel is located about 5 miles outside the city center of Edinburgh - not terribly convenient for sightseeing, but perfect if you are driving. The hotel offers free parking and the building seems brand new and purpose-built to be a hotel.

Check-in is done with iPads, which have a dead simple checking in system - easier than at the airport. All that was needed was my last name and the Expedia reservation came up. There was an attendant ready to help, but I checked myself in without any need for assistance. No passport copies, no other hassles and seconds later I got two printed room keys.

My room on the second floor was huge, with two queen size beds. Everything in the room seemed brand new and the bathroom was super-modern and of high quality as well. There wasn't anything I felt could have been done better; yes, it wasn't five star, but it was perfectly functional and of a high standard.

The internet came in at an amazing 50MBit and just added to the positive experience of this hotel.

Breakfast is apparently very good at £8.50 ($11), but I did not venture down for it as I instead decided to use the car to find a good coffee shop.

Check-out was so easy too - just a key drop and no crazy back and forth.

What a great hotel. If you have a car, this is THE place to sleep in Edinburgh. You get a quality product that has all the space and amenities you need for a price that is hard to beat.
