airberlin expands

Read all about it…

airberlin’s recent press release confirmed future expansion of its long-haul network to the US, with flight frequencies increasing by up to 50% from the summer of 2017. Currently, there are 55 weekly nonstop flights to the United States with the airline from its Berlin and Düsseldorf hubs, but within the year this will increase to 78 per week.

This is good news particularly for Avios collectors, as taxes and fees on airberlin flights booked with your Avios points are very low.

New routes and new frequencies…

New routes include Düsseldorf to Orlando, with five flights per week from May 6th, 2017, making it airberlin’s third destination in the Sunshine State. Berlin-Tegel to San Francisco and Los Angeles are also due to start in May next year, with four weekly flights to SFO and three weekly flights to LAX.

Berlin-Tegel to Miami will be a year-round nonstop service from winter, 2016, with four weekly flights in the winter months and three weekly flights in the summer, as well as daily flights from Düsseldorf. Flight frequency will also increase between Düsseldorf and Boston, San Francisco and New York (JFK).

There seems to be decent award availability on the new routes already, in both economy and business class, but you may have to call to book for the time being.

Did you know?

This year, airberlin is also adding a business class cabin (four seats of the first row, to be more precise) to short-haul and medium-haul flights in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.
