What’s the deal with iDine and other dining rewards programs?

If you’re a fan of eating out, then dining rewards programs can be a great way to earn a little extra while doing so. You can be rewarded with cashback, gift cards, college savings bonuses or, more importantly for travel enthusiasts, miles or points for your favorite loyalty program.

You may already earn miles or points by spending with a card that earns when dining (for instance, the Chase Sapphire Preferred gives you 2x points when dining at restaurants, whether it’s fast food or fine dining).

Combine this with signing up for a dining rewards program and you’re then double-dipping to earn with both.

iDine is part of the The Rewards Network and has more than 11,000 participating restaurants, bars and clubs to choose from to earn while you eat. The tiered earning depends on how much you spend annually:

  • Earn 5% back in American Express Reward Cards until you have spent $250.
  • Earn 10% back in American Express Reward Cards when you have spent more than $250, but less than $750.
  • Earn 15% back in American Express Reward Cards when you have spent more than $750.

You can often earn a double bonus at a featured business, called a ‘hotspot’. The current hotspots are in California, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin:

You can join iDine here for free and start earning up to 15% cashback at thousands of restaurants.

The Rewards Network also partners with major airline and hotel loyalty programs and several of them offer a sign-up bonus as well as regular earning potential. The current sign-up bonuses for The Rewards Network airline partners include:

You can also earn points with jetBlue True Blue Dining, but they don’t offer a sign-up bonus.

What else do I need to know about iDine and other dining rewards programs?

It’s worth knowing that you can’t register the same card to earn with more than one dining program at the same time and you need to write a short review of each dining experience, but it only takes a couple of minutes.

You can achieve top-tier status with some dining rewards programs by dining 12 times in a year and then your earning rate increases, too!
